After sitting around the house for two yrs, I finally maidened
Warbirdkits Skyhawk. Before doing so, I changed the power system. I removed
the HET 2W and used a Mega 16/15/3, changed the cut minfan rotor to the
cut KY. This allowed me to use a 2200 25C Excite 4S1P pack. This lightened
the airframe to 30oz. Numbers are 34A>510W. First flight proved the CG too
far aft. I had to hold down elev. But, it did not stall. Just mushed.
I cut the thrtl and buried it under a 1' high mound of cut hay. No
damage. Moved the pack forward about 1.5" and tried again. Better, and
it was trimmed out with the help of Ken LaPoint.
The day was successful with Kens help. I never did a bungee launch
from a rail launcher. Once the A4 got on the step, it boogied very well.
Rolls can be as fast as you dare. And most of the flight was at less than
50% power.
F7U-3 Cutlass
Roger Winger's Cutlass took second place in the RCGroups.com 04/05 Jet Design Contest (Pusher).
We're bringing it to market for MiniFan power, with an all-new scale-outline built-up wing. The beta
build is detailed at

The Cutlass has proven itself a good design, with witnesses today.
Ken LaPoints help with the Skyhawk and Cutlass was greatly needed and
apprieciated! Unlike the A4, the Cutlass did not want to slow down,
even with the power at only 25% approx. It is definetly a fast little jet.
With the new 4s 2200 Excite packs, it has 555W @ 44A. It gets small
real fast. But, will fly tight and close. CG is spot on, as per plans.
On one high speed pass, full power, she climbed non-stop. I had to cut
the power to see it. Did beautiful consecutive split-S's at less than
50% power.
The jet cruised at 30% power. Because of the low frontal area and
airfoil, it glides forever. Can be mild or wild. And full power has
awesome verticals. The prototype was powered with a separate 6-5V BEC,
CC 45(in the exaust) Astro 805 and a smooth running Minifan.
While it would easily hand launch, I only bungeed it. It does not
have much of a hand hold, unless strips of sand paper painted would
afford a grip on the belly at the CG. The battery placement is between
the ducts. A 3s would fly this, and there is plenty of placement for a
further forward position.
